And now I’m here to say…It absolutely wrecked me as I was reminded of God’s ultimate intention and why so many people may walk away from their faith.
From what I’ve personally witnessed early on, I learned knowing God won’t magically make our lives easier and the reality we sometimes forget is He doesn’t owe us anything here on this earth. But even though that’s what I’ve learned, I’ve also realized the message for others get’s lost through what’s been preached by the church or people choosing to be motivational speakers without also sharing the truth.
While His goodness and love is pivotal when it comes to the Good News, to only follow Him on the basis of what He can do for us instead of what He’s already done is a shallow form of salvation that was never the purpose of the cross. This isn’t to say God doesn’t want to bless us, or that we shouldn’t pray for miracles, or to not thank Him for what we have; this is solely leading with: He has already done the good He ever needs to do. And in a society of prosperity teaching, or “just do this and you’ll get to this”, or “pray bigger and your miracle will come”, is so detrimental and can leave us standing on shaky grounds. Because the will He has for our lives might not always match our prayers and sometimes the hard reality is things will happen beyond our understanding.
I’m aware it’s a broad and very heavy subject but I can speak from my own convictions in the different seasons where I wrestled with this lie of God being made into something He was never meant to be. And as the pendulum swings, to constantly be aware of His grace on this side of heaven along with what’s at stake for us on the side of eternity is so important.
And while I know who He is in each of our lives runs so much deeper than the pages of this book, if you’re looking for a great reminder or something to challenge your foundation, then yes, read this. But more importantly, I hope God’s love shows up in your life over and over again and wrecks you in the best way too.
