As I began to build a relationship with God, I knew that investing time in The Word was necessary. So each morning, while enjoying my cup of coffee of course, I'd set aside time to just read a few chapters, highlight what really caught my attention, then get on with my day. I got to the point of sharing verses everyday to family and close friends, in hopes that the message would speak to them as it did to me. But then unfortunately I got out of that habit, due to well...life.
I continued to discipline myself to read The Word, but it seemed as if something was still missing in regards to my spiritual growth. And of course, God never fails to come through with a solution when I feel like I'm in some sort of funk. So recently as I was listening to a teaching, a "30|30 Challenge" was referenced; which calls us to not only read the Bible, but to study it 30 minutes a day for 30 days. And what really stood out to me was how we were told quality is better than quantity- that it's better to understand one verse and apply it to our lives instead of reading a whole chapter and forget about what was read.
So I decided to take part in this challenge because I knew it was an adjustment I needed to make. And being on day 17, I have already noticed a shift in my understanding.
During my alone time, I still have my Bible and highlighter handy, as well as a notebook, pen, and dictionary. I focus on a verse that applies to my life- or one that I feel lead to read- and I completely dissect it.
For example:
"I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit."

glorious: brilliantly beautiful or magnificent.
unlimited: infinite; unconditional.
resources: a source of supply to furnish or provide what is lacking ; support;
aid, especially one that can be readily drawn upon when needed.
empower: enable; give power to.
inner: of or pertaining to the mind or spirit, mental; spiritual.
strength: the quality or state of being strong; mental or moral power.

So after rereading each definition over and over again, then meditating on the scripture, I see how this verse can be applied with more appreciation...
I may lack certain (or lots of) capabilities, but a relationship with God provides the wisdom I need to face all that comes my way. And the best part is, because of the Holy Spirit, He is always there, whenever I need Him; I'm not limited to our one on one time. God's grace, love, voice, and forgiveness is with me throughout my day; while I'm at work, in my car, at the grocery store, etc. The more I take the time to remind myself who He is and what He can do, my heart is full. And truly relying on the Spirit's voice and staying in contact with Him is what will make me spiritual strong- not just me expecting Him to.
So now, not only do I receive a great message each morning, but I also gain a lifestyle change.
What tools do you use to uncover God's Word? I'm always up for more resources!
